WWII Service Record - Hiliary Owen Cameron
Enlisting for service at Wagga, 18 year old Hiliary was noted to have fair hair and blue eyes, a dark complexion and was 5ft 4.5 inches. His religion was listed as Church of England. Hiliary, known to everyone around him as 'Jack', was posted as a driver in Japan with the BCOF, 122 Transport platoon 168 AGT, operating out of Kaitachi in Hiroshima. It was here that Jack suffered exposure to radiation and fallout.
Jack was discharged on or around the 27 Feb 1949 and issued a discharge certificate. Unfortunately, the certificate was later lost when Jack handed it to the P.M.G Department in 1952 while applying for a job, and they never returned it and were unable to locate it.
