Untroubled Where I Lie...

The McGrath Family's Journey Through Time

Love, Legacy, and Laughter

Hey there, welcome!

This isn’t just a boring list of names — this is our family’s story, full of characters, adventures, and a fair share of surprises. Every name in this tree has a story to tell, and yes, some of them might make you laugh, some might make you marvel, and a few might even make you shake your head in disbelief.

As you click around, you’ll meet ancestors who worked hard, loved harder, and somehow managed to survive the chaos of life long before smartphones and coffee shops existed. From great-grandparents to cousins you’ve never met, each branch has its own flavor, its own quirks, and its own lessons to share.

So dig in, wander around, and see what you can discover. Who knows — you might just find a long-lost relative, a funny story, or a little spark that makes our family tree feel like your own.

But... why the weird name?

main imageWhere does "Untroubled Where I Lie" come from? It comes from one of my all-time favourite poems! The phrase “untroubled where I lie” captures a moment of peace and self-acceptance. It’s a quiet assertion of contentment in a sometimes overwhelming world. And let's face it, our ancestors are truly untroubled where they lie...

I Am!
by John Clare     I am! yet what I am who cares, or knows?     My friends forsake me like a memory lost. I am the self-consumer of my woes,     They rise and vanish, an oblivious host, Shadows of life, whose very soul is lost. And yet I am—I live—though I am toss'd Into the nothingness of scorn and noise,     Into the living sea of waking dream, Where there is neither sense of life, nor joys,     But the huge shipwreck of my own esteem And all that's dear. Even those I loved the best Are strange—nay, they are stranger than the rest. I long for scenes where man has never trod,     For scenes where woman never smiled or wept; There to abide with my Creator, God,     And sleep as I in childhood sweetly slept Untroubling and untroubled where I lie, The grass below; above the vaulted sky.

We're a little bit pedantic about verifying documents and citing all of our sources in this family tree. If you have something to add or think we have something wrong, please let us know.
