Repeatedly wounded in action, Duncan did not return to his homeland of Australia until 4 Jan 1919 and was discharged on the 13 Mar 1920. At the time of enlistment, Duncan and his wife Hilda were living in Alexandria, Sydney. Duncan served in the 53rd battalion and prior to enlisting worked as a Fitters Assistant. Duncan was awarded the British War Medal and Victory Medal
